OCR & Translation

CyberSnap includes multilingual OCR (Optical Character Recognition) powered by Tesseract, with integrated translation support. Extract text from any image and translate it to your preferred language.

OCR (Text Recognition)

How OCR Works

  1. Trigger OCR capture (via hotkey or widget)
  2. Select the region containing text
  3. CyberSnap processes the image through Tesseract
  4. Extracted text is displayed in the OCR Result window
  5. Copy, search, or translate the text

Supported Languages

CyberSnap supports OCR in all languages available in Tesseract, including but not limited to:

  • English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese
  • Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean
  • Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Dutch, Polish, Swedish
  • And many more

Language auto-detection: CyberSnap automatically selects the OCR language based on your Windows display language. You can also manually specify the language in settings.

OCR Result Window

After recognition, the OCR Result window displays:

  • Extracted text in an editable text box
  • Confidence score for the recognition
  • Detected language
  • Options to copy, translate, or search

Translation

Translation Providers

CyberSnap supports two translation services:

Provider Description
Google Translate High-quality translation via Google Translate API
MyMemory Free web-based translation service

Using Translation

  1. Extract text via OCR
  2. Click Translate in the OCR Result window
  3. Select source and target languages
  4. View translated text
  5. Copy or save the translation

Target language Your preferred output language
Auto-translate Automatically translate after OCR

Full-Text Search

CyberSnap indexes all OCR-extracted text in a local SQLite database, enabling full-text search across your entire capture history.

Search Features

  • Search by content — Find captures containing specific text
  • Search by metadata — Filter by date, source, or capture type
  • Search sources — Configure which content to index:
    • OCR text
    • Barcode/QR content
    • File names
    • Custom tags

Using Search

  1. Open the Gallery (via hotkey or tray menu)
  2. Type your search query in the search box
  3. Results update in real-time
  4. Click any result to open it in the editor

Tips for Better OCR Results

  1. Higher resolution — Larger text is recognized more accurately
  2. Good contrast — Dark text on light background works best
  3. Straight orientation — Avoid skewed or rotated text
  4. Clean background — Remove noise and patterns behind text
  5. Correct language — Set the right OCR language for your content
  6. Pre-processing — Use the editor to crop and enhance before OCR
