Editing

Editing

CyberViewer includes lightweight editing tools for rotate, crop, resize, color adjustments, and flips. Rotation starts as a visual preview. Crop, resize, and adjustments are rendered when you apply them, with a copy option available in each tool.

Rotate

Rotation Actions

Action Shortcut Description
Rotate left Q Rotate 90° counter-clockwise.
Rotate right E Rotate 90° clockwise.

Save Workflow

Rotation is previewed on the current image and remains pending until you save or discard it:

  • Use the floating Save button to write the rotated image to the current file.
  • Use File > Save As or Ctrl+S to export the current view to a new file.
  • Press Escape or use the floating Discard button to restore the original orientation.
  • Opening another editing tool cancels an uncommitted rotation preview so that tool starts from the original orientation.

The save operation renders the rotated image at full resolution. A 90° or 270° rotation swaps the output width and height.

Crop

How to Crop

  1. Click Crop or press C.
  2. The crop frame opens around the visible image.
  3. Drag inside the frame to move it, or drag a handle to resize it.
  4. Click Apply, or press Enter when the crop is valid.
  5. Press Escape to cancel the crop mode.

Crop Handles

  • Eight handles are available: four corners and four edges.
  • The frame cannot extend beyond the image.
  • Corner handles preserve the frame's current aspect ratio.
  • Edge handles allow independent horizontal or vertical resizing.
  • The minimum crop dimension is 50 screen pixels before conversion to output pixels.

Crop Options

Option Description
Apply to a copy Save a new file with the _cropped suffix and keep the source image. Enabled by default.
Apply Render the selected region and save it. With copy mode off, the source file is overwritten.

Crop mode starts from the original image orientation, so an uncommitted rotation preview is discarded when cropping begins. The result is inserted next to the current image when a copy is created.

Resize

How to Resize

  1. Click Resize or press R.
  2. Enter target width and height in pixels, or choose a preset.
  3. Keep the aspect lock enabled, or disable it for independent dimensions.
  4. Choose a resampling algorithm.
  5. Select whether to apply the result to a copy, then click Apply.

Resize Presets

Preset Result
1:1 (1080) Square output at 1080 × 1080 pixels.
16:9 (720p) 1280 × 720 pixels.
16:9 (1080p) 1920 × 1080 pixels.
25% Scale both dimensions to one quarter.
50% Scale both dimensions to one half.
200% Double both dimensions.

Manual Resize

The resize panel provides:

  • Editable width and height fields.
  • A linked aspect-ratio lock.
  • A combined scale slider while the lock is enabled.
  • Independent width and height sliders when the lock is disabled.
  • An estimated output scale and file size indicator.

Resampling Algorithms

Option Description
Fast Nearest-neighbor resampling with sharp, fast output.
Balanced Bilinear resampling with a smoother result.
High Quality Bicubic resampling for smoother, more detailed output.

Resize Options

Option Description
Apply to a copy Save a new file and keep the source image. Enabled by default.
Apply Render the new dimensions and save them. With copy mode off, the source file is overwritten.

Color Adjustments

Adjustment Tools

Tool Description
Brightness Lighten or darken the image.
Contrast Increase or decrease contrast.
Saturation Adjust color intensity.
Blur Apply a configurable blur effect.
Grayscale Convert the image to grayscale.
Invert Invert the image colors.

Live Preview

  1. Click Adjust or press J.
  2. Change the sliders or enable grayscale and invert.
  3. The live preview updates over the main image while the preview toggle is enabled.
  4. Hold A/B to compare the original image with the current preview.
  5. Use Reset to return all controls to their neutral values.

The A/B control is momentary. The original is shown while the button is held with the mouse, Space, or Enter, and the edited preview returns when released.

Apply Workflow

Action Result
Apply to a copy Save a new file with the _adjusted suffix and keep the source image. Enabled by default.
Apply Render the full-resolution adjustment. With copy mode off, the source file is overwritten.
Close or Escape Close the panel and discard the unsaved preview.

Adjustments are rendered through a canvas at the image's full resolution. They do not modify the source until Apply is confirmed.

Flip

Flip Actions

Action Shortcut Description
Flip horizontal H Mirror the image left to right.
Flip vertical Shift+H Mirror the image top to bottom.

Flips are saved immediately as a new file with the _flipped suffix. The original image is preserved, and the generated copy is added after the current image in the folder view.

Editing Safety

  • Rotation can be discarded while its preview is pending.
  • Crop, resize, and adjustment tools default to Apply to a copy.
  • Disabling copy mode explicitly allows the source file to be overwritten.
  • Copy outputs use a deduplicated filename when a file with the same suffix already exists.
  • If an image came from the clipboard, CyberViewer first gives it a local file path before saving an edit.
