Gallery

Gallery

The Gallery window is the searchable home for everything CyberSnap keeps: screenshots, MP4 recordings, GIF recordings, OCR results, barcode scans, and picked colors. Underneath it sits the History store (history.db).

History Types

Type Description
Screenshots All captured still images
Videos (MP4) Screen recordings, with ffmpeg-generated thumbnails
GIFs Animated GIF recordings
OCR results Text extracted from images (OCR badge)
Barcodes/QR Scanned codes and their content (QR badge)
Colors Colors picked with the Color Picker tool (CLR badge)

Gallery Interface

Category Tabs

A CyberPaste-style tab strip switches between views (each tab shows a count pill):

  • All — unified feed of every kind with per-card badges, infinite scroll, collapsible date groups with item counts
  • Images — screenshots only, with the image-search box
  • Videos/GIFs — recordings only (see below)
  • Text — OCR results; Colors — picked colors; Codes — barcode/QR scans

Cards and Badges

  • Thumbnail, capture time (relative, e.g. "2h ago", in English and Spanish), and a kind badge (VID pink for video, GIF, OCR, QR, CLR)
  • Videos and GIFs carry a play overlay; video thumbnails are extracted with ffmpeg (480 px wide) with a placeholder while generating
  • Multi-select with Ctrl+click / Shift+click, plus a Select All button for everything in the current filter (unified across tabs); batch copy, delete, and export
  • Right-click any card for its context menu (actions depend on kind)

Search Bar and Header

  • A compact icon-button header with the status line at search-bar level
  • Image search offers Name / OCR / Exact chips plus a Refresh index button with progress
  • The title-bar More menu holds a Help submenu → Wiki: Gallery..., website, update check, About

Videos & GIFs

Recordings are first-class citizens in the Gallery; the old page simply forgot them.

  • Empty state reads "No videos or GIFs yet — Recordings and GIF captures will appear here."
  • Default click on a video/GIF opens it in the Video & GIF Trimmer (configurable via the same click-action setting as images)
  • Card menu extras for recordings:
    • Video & GIF Trimmer — reopen the trimmer for that file
    • Copy — "Video copied to clipboard" / "GIF copied to clipboard"
    • Open — play with the system default app
    • Show in folder, Delete as usual

See Screen Recording for capture and trimming.

Actions on Captures

Click Action

Configure what happens when you click a capture in the Gallery (Settings → Gallery):

Action Description
Open in editor Launch the annotation editor (images) / trimmer (videos & GIFs)
Copy to clipboard Copy the image, video, or GIF to clipboard
Open in default viewer Open with your image viewer / video player
Open containing folder Show the file in Explorer
Upload Share via configured provider

Card Context Menu (Selection)

Beyond the click action, right-click offers: Open, Open in editor (images), Share to… (upload providers), Open with… (Word / PowerPoint / Excel when installed, plus a system picker), Extract text (run OCR on an image), View extracted text (OCR cards), Copy, Show in folder, Delete.

Batch Actions

  • Select multiple captures (Ctrl+click, Shift+click)
  • Copy, delete, or export multiple items at once

History Retention

Configure retention in Settings → Gallery (retention lives only there; the Gallery window itself has no prune controls):

Option Description
Auto-delete old captures Never (default) / 1 day / 7 days / 30 days / 3 months
Limit captures No limit (default), or keep only the newest 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 / 1000
Delete original files Also delete screenshot and recording files from disk when pruning (off = pruned items only hide from the Gallery, files are kept)

Data Storage

All gallery data is stored locally (always under roaming AppData: there is no portable layout):

  • Store: %APPDATA%\CyberSnap\gallery\gallery.db (+ JSON indexes, thumbnail caches)
  • Images/recordings: the configured captures folder (%USERPROFILE%\Pictures\CyberSnap\, with Videos\ / GIFs\ subfolders)
  • Search index: full-text index for fast queries

No data is sent to external servers unless you explicitly upload a capture. Details: Configuration Files.
