System Tray
System Tray
CyberSnap has no main window, it lives in the system tray and provides quick access to all features from there.
Tray Icon
The tray icon shows:
- CyberSnap logo
- Tile quick-panel menu on right-click (area capture, modes, record, tools, gallery, editor, footer actions)
- Tooltip: "CyberSnap - Left-click to activate / Right-click for menu" (version shown in the menu header)
Left-click starts an area capture, or stops the current recording while one is in progress.
Icon States
| State | Appearance |
|---|---|
| Running | Normal icon |
| Recording | Blinking LED: alternates between a red-dot overlay icon and the normal icon every ~500 ms |
| Recording paused | Steady red-dot overlay icon (no blinking) |
| Update available | Steady update LED overlay; the menu header shows the version with the LED (click the header to open About) |
Note: still-image capture shows no tray animation; the icon only changes state for screen recording.
First-Run Pin Tip
Windows hides new tray icons behind the overflow (^), so CyberSnap shows a one-time tip near the taskbar on first run:
- Title: "Keep CyberSnap visible in the tray"
- Body explains how to drag the icon onto the taskbar or pin it in Windows Settings
- Open Windows Settings button opens
ms-settings:taskbarand auto-opens the nested "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" list (works in English and Spanish; avoids the legacy Control Panel applet hosted by explorer.exe) - Don't show again is checked by default;
Escor Got it dismisses and remembersHasSeenTrayPinTip
You can reopen the same action anytime from Settings → General → Startup → Keep CyberSnap visible in the tray (search pintrayicon in Settings search jumps to it).

Header and Quick Panel
- The menu header shows the CyberSnap version; clicking it opens About (with the update LED beside it when a release is pending)
- Only Exit stays red; the donate heart rests neutral and blushes rose on hover
Starting with Windows
CyberSnap can automatically launch when you sign in to Windows:
- Go to Settings → General → Startup
- Enable Start with Windows
- CyberSnap adds itself to Windows startup
This creates a startup entry in the Windows Registry (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run).
Exiting CyberSnap
To fully close CyberSnap:
- Right-click tray icon → Exit
⚠️ There is no "minimize/close to tray"; CyberSnap has no main window to minimize; it already lives in the tray. Exiting disables all hotkeys, the capture widget, and auto-capture features.
